Retro Vault Emporium FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Welcome to the Retro Vault Emporium FAQ! Here you'll find answers to common questions about our PSA-graded vintage Pokémon cards, ordering process, shipping, authentication, and more.
About Our Cards
Are all your cards authentic?
Yes, absolutely. The vast majority of our inventory is professionally graded and authenticated by PSA (Professional Sports Authenticator), the industry's gold standard for collectible card grading. Each graded card comes sealed in a protective PSA case with a unique certification number that can be verified on PSA's official website. We occasionally offer authenticated sealed product and rare variants that meet our quality standards.
What does PSA grading mean?
PSA grading is a professional authentication and condition assessment service. Cards are graded on a 1-10 scale, with 10 being "Gem Mint" (perfect condition) and 9 being "Mint" (near-perfect). The grade considers centering, corners, edges, surface quality, and overall condition. A PSA-graded card is permanently sealed in a tamper-evident case with a certification label.
What's the difference between PSA 9 and PSA 10?
PSA 10 (Gem Mint) represents absolute perfection—flawless centering, razor-sharp corners, pristine edges, and immaculate surface with zero defects. PSA 9 (Mint) is near-perfect with only minor imperfections that are difficult to detect. Both grades are investment-quality, but PSA 10s command premium pricing due to their rarity.
What are shadowless cards?
Shadowless cards are from the earliest print run of the Base Set in 1999, before Wizards of the Coast added shadows to the artwork borders. These cards are significantly rarer and more valuable than unlimited edition cards. They're highly sought after by serious collectors.
What's the difference between 1st Edition and Unlimited?
1st Edition cards feature a special "1st Edition" stamp and were part of the initial limited print run. Unlimited edition cards were printed afterward without the stamp and in much larger quantities. 1st Edition cards are considerably rarer and more valuable.
Do you sell raw (ungraded) cards?
We focus primarily on PSA-graded cards to ensure authenticity and condition verification. However, we occasionally offer authenticated sealed product (like unopened booster packs) and exceptional rare variants when they meet our quality standards.

Shipping & Delivery
How long does shipping take?
Orders are typically processed and shipped within 1-2 business days. Domestic standard shipping takes 3-7 business days. Expedited options (2-day and overnight) are available at checkout for faster delivery.
Do you ship internationally?
Yes, we ship to select international destinations. Delivery times vary by location (typically 7-21 business days). International buyers are responsible for all customs duties, import taxes, VAT, and fees imposed by their country.
How are cards packaged?
We take packaging seriously. PSA-graded cards are shipped in rigid card savers or top loaders, placed in padded bubble mailers or reinforced boxes. Orders over $500 are double-boxed for extra protection. All packages include tracking and insurance.
Is shipping insured?
Yes, every order is fully insured for its purchase price. Signature confirmation is required on all orders over $250, and adult signature is required on orders over $1,000.
What if my package is lost or damaged?
Contact us immediately at support@retrovaultemporium.com with photos (if damaged). We'll assist with filing an insurance claim with the carrier and work with you on replacement or refund options once the claim is processed.
Can I track my order?
Yes! You'll receive a tracking number via email as soon as your order ships. You can track your package through the carrier's website.
Returns & Refunds
What is your return policy?
Returns are accepted within 7 days of delivery. Cards must be returned in the exact same condition with the PSA slab completely intact and undamaged. For full details, please review our Refund Policy.
Can I return a card if I don't like the grade?
No. Cards are not eligible for return due to issues with grade, subjective condition assessment, or market valuation. The PSA grade is a professional third-party assessment and is final. We encourage you to review all photos and grade information carefully before purchasing.
What if my card arrives damaged?
If your card or PSA slab arrives cracked, broken, or damaged, contact us immediately with photos. We'll issue a return authorization and cover return shipping costs. Your satisfaction and the card's safety are our top priorities.
Do you offer exchanges?
We do not offer direct exchanges for PSA-graded cards since each card is unique. If you'd like a different card, please submit a new order.
How long do refunds take?
Once we receive and inspect your returned item, refunds are processed to your original payment method within 10 business days.
Card Requests & Selling
Can I request a specific card?
Absolutely! If you're looking for a specific PSA-graded card that's not currently listed, email us at support@retrovaultemporium.com with details. We may have it in our vault or can help source it for you.
Do you buy cards or collections?
Yes, we're always interested in acquiring high-grade vintage Pokémon cards, especially PSA-graded Base Set cards, rare holos, and sealed WOTC product. Contact us with details and photos of your collection for a quote.
How do you determine pricing?
Our pricing is based on current market values, recent sales data, PSA population reports (rarity), card condition (grade), and demand. We strive to offer fair, competitive pricing that reflects true market value.
Authentication & Verification
How can I verify my PSA card is authentic?
Every PSA slab has a unique certification number printed on the label. You can verify authenticity by entering the card's PSA number on PSA's official website at www.psacard.com/cert. This will show the card details, grade, and certification date.
What if the PSA certification number doesn't match?
This would be extremely rare, but if you receive a card and the certification number doesn't match our listing or PSA's database, contact us immediately. We guarantee authenticity on every card and will resolve the issue.
Are PSA slabs tamper-proof?
Yes, PSA cases are designed to be tamper-evident. Any attempt to open or alter the case will leave visible damage. Never purchase a PSA card with a cracked, damaged, or tampered case.
Investment & Collecting
Are vintage Pokémon cards a good investment?
Vintage Pokémon cards, especially PSA-graded first edition Base Set cards, have shown strong appreciation over the past decade. However, like any collectible, values can fluctuate. We recommend collecting cards you love first, and viewing investment potential as a bonus.
Which cards hold the most value?
Generally, first edition Base Set holos (especially Charizard, Blastoise, Venusaur), shadowless variants, and high-grade PSA 9/10 cards command premium prices. Rarity, condition, nostalgia, and pop culture relevance all influence value.
Should I get my cards graded?
If you have vintage cards in excellent condition, especially first edition or rare holos, professional grading can significantly increase their value and marketability. PSA grading also provides authentication and permanent protection.
